
Nino Surmava is a young Georgian researcher. She was awarded PhD Degree in Arabic Philology in 2018.
Nino Surmava is Lecturer of Arabic language at Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University and works as a Leading Specialist in Department of Education Process Management at the Faculty of Humanities, Institute of Oriental Studies.
Nino Surmava has successfully completed a training programs in Arabic Language organized by King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz International Center for Arabic Language (2020) and Cairo University (2024/2011/2004). As a young researcher She participated in AGYA International Bilingual Summer School at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Italy (2019) on the theme: Mapping the Urban: Cities in Arabic Literature, Culture and Society.
Nino Surmava was visiting researcher at Notre-Dame University of Lebanon (2015) and Mohammed V University-Agdal, Rabat, Morocco (2014) in the frame of PhD scholarship funded by Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation. She is a member of the Georgian Comparative Literature Association (GCLA).
The major field of Nino Surmava’s scientific interest includes the theme of encounter and interrelations between East and West in the 20th Century Arabic Literature; Mahjar Literature; Imagology; Issue of Cultural Identity in Arabic literature; Translation and the Problematics of Cross-Cultural Understending. She is an author of several articles in Georgian, English and Arabic Languages published in international scientific journals for Literary Theory and Comparative literature (Sjani (The Thoughts), Litinfo, Spekali, Tselitsdeuli, Oriental studies,) and Proceedings of several International conferences (2010-2022. Approx. 18 articles).
In the years 2010-2022 Nino Surmava participated in International Scientific conferences (Approx. 20) in Georgia, Europe and Arabic countries. She has also literary translations from Arabic into Georgian language. In 2015 she was awarded the Medal of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilsi State University.
